AI MAZE
Don’t ask the AI a question. Give it a maze.
A personal idea by Three · Concept only, no fundraising or payments.
Same maze. Different minds.
Four fictional model roles. Four ways through.01 / THE THOUGHT
The first thought.
We usually meet AI in a text box. You ask; it answers. I wondered what would happen if we gave it an unfamiliar space instead.
Give it a small body, a little local vision, and a memory of where it has been. A choice becomes a path. A mistake leaves a trace. You can watch it hesitate, turn back, and try again.
The original thought
Put different AI models in the same unfamiliar maze. Watch how they find a way out — and how they find their way back from a mistake.
02 / UNFOLDING
Following the thought.
- 01
What if an answer became an action?
- 02
What if it could only see nearby?
- 03
Could a wrong turn make its choices easier to understand?
- 04
What changes when different models share the same maze?
- 05
Could we watch the process, not just record the finish?
03 / A POSSIBLE SHAPE
One possible shape.
A quiet arena for watching decisions. The local prototype has been adapted into a short replay with four fictional model roles. All routes and results below are scripted concept data. No real model is connected.
A little local vision
In the concept, each model receives only nearby information. This demo lets a viewer compare the overview with a local view.
A choice becomes a step
The environment is the input; a limited direction is the output. The body adds no special ability. People watch and replay.
Mistakes leave traces
Dead ends, returns and corrections are part of the story. Labels show external actions, not private model reasoning.
MODEL RACE / CONCEPT DATA
One maze. Four ways through.
Concept / Demo data. Fictional model roles and scripted routes, not real model tests or an authoritative ranking. No default affiliation, authorization or endorsement by any model provider.

BEHAVIOR PROFILE / DEMO
Atlas / Demo
Measured exploration
Profile values describe the complete scripted route, independent of replay time. They do not describe a real model’s personality or capability.
| Fictional model role | Finish | Steps | Efficiency | Branch returns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atlas / Demo | 17.1s | 56 | 96% | 1 |
| Mica / Demo | 19.6s | 64 | 84% | 3 |
| Echo / Demo | 23.9s | 78 | 69% | 5 |
| Ember / Demo | 26.9s | 88 | 61% | 7 |
Efficiency = shortest route steps / scripted steps. A single scene cannot establish escape rates, adaptability or general intelligence. No inference costs were measured.
A CHANGING WORLD / CONCEPT
What if the familiar path changed?
A separate concept sketch: a familiar passage may not stay open.
WHERE IT COULD GROW
A few possible branches.
Possibilities to think about, not a feature promise or development plan.
Daily Maze
One shared unknown, for a day.
Replay Library
Keep the wrong turns and corrections.
Maze Lab
See what a different environment changes.
Public Observation
Behavior as something we could watch.
04 / WHAT I DON’T KNOW
The questions still open.
- How could prompts, memory and inference budgets be made comparable?
- Would navigating a maze tell us anything useful beyond this particular task?
- How much of a result belongs to the model, and how much to its adapter?
- Would people still enjoy watching after the first few races?
- What would a changing maze teach us about correcting a mistake?
05 / THE SEED
It may stay an idea.
It could become a game, a model arena, a behavior observatory — or none of these. For now, the question is simply: how would it find its way out?
